Strong Faith Is Built On God’s Word

The following is an excerpt from Dr. John’s book, HOW TO OBTAIN STRONG FAITH. Follow this link to obtain your copy of HOW TO OBTAIN STRONG FAITH today.

“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.” Luke 6:46-49 NKJV

We find three steps to building a strong faith that can survive and thrive while going through a storm in life, whether spiritual, mental, physical or financial.

Our Foundation of Faith begins with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord. “Why call Me Lord, if you aren’t going to do what I say?” Lordship implies that we have given Christ authority to direct our lives and teach us how to live as He lived during His earth walk. There is a huge difference between being a person who “believes in Jesus” and one who has made “Jesus the Lord over their life.” Surrender to His will, followed by obedience, is the starting point for having a strong faith life because if we are willingly disobedient we can not have confidence before Him.

Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. 1 John 3:21-23 NKJV

In the Luke passage we see a parable of “contrast” in that one person “digs deep” and lays a foundation on a rock, while the other persons builds on sand. The outcome for the one who builds on sand is disastrous as the storms totally destroy him and his shelter. The one who has “dug deep”, by searching the Word of God and becoming a student of Scripture, has found something “solid” to base belief on, and is not harmed by the storms of life. Being prepared to face life’s challenges is the key to victory but it takes some diligent effort on our part.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 NKJV

Hearing His Word goes “deeper” than hearing it with our physical ears resulting in mental knowledge. The “hearing” that produces a strong faith comes from a spiritual revelation as we meditate on the Word of God. Meditation involves thinking about it and letting it revolve again and again in our minds until Holy Spirit turns on the lights.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 NKJV

The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130 NKJV

Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, Ephesians 1:15-18 NKJV

There is a system I have learned in obtaining revelation knowledge as follows:

  • Information: The written Word; paper and ink.
  • Meditation: Taking the written Word and thinking about it over and over.
  • Revelation: The result of meditation of the Word; our spiritual eyes are opened.
  • Impartation: The power of God is released with revelation knowledge.
  • Transformation: The power of God released brings a change to our conditions.

Jesus said, “Come, Hear, and Do” and you will build a faith that will stand the test and survive the storms that are sure to come in this life.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22 NKJV

“Acting on God’s Word” is another way of saying “be doers of the Word.” When we have received a revelation of the Word, faith has come and we are able to do what we have heard; “faith is an act” not a “feeling”.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 NKJV

Notice in this verse that “hearing” is mentioned twice. The meaning is clear; “repetition” brings “understanding”. We must hear and hear and hear until the spiritual understanding is clear. (Nice rhyme.)
