Finishing Strong

The following is an excerpt from Dr. John’s book, VICTORIOUS. Follow this link to obtain your copy of VICTORIOUS today.

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.” 48 So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 49 Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. [he finished it]. 1 Samuel 17:45-50

David faced his battle because he couldn’t escape it. He fought his battle because he knew God was with him. Then he finished it because he had all the weapons he needed to complete his mission! He put an end to it when he killed the giant and cut Goliath’s head off (1 Samuel 17:51).

What was David’s real sword? Ephesians 6:17 says his sword was in his mouth. What does that mean? He met Goliath’s challenge with a declaration of victory right from the very beginning of his encounter with this seemingly undefeatable foe. It appeared David had nothing that could compete with his enemy’s intimidating weapons.

“Let me tell you about my weapon,” David declared boldly. “I come in the name of the Lord of hosts.”

Then David continued his declaration and shows us how to finish the fight. David spoke the end result before he even began the battle.

  • SPEAK THE FINISHED WORD FROM GOD.
  • YOU’RE NOT HOPING ABOUT THE OUTCOME… YOUR CONFIDENCE AND HOPE IS IN THE LORD.
  • YOU’RE NOT PRAYING TO RECEIVE AN ANSWER… YOU HAVE THE ANSWER!
  • BOLDLY ANNOUNCE TO THE DEVIL AND BEFORE MAN WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN…WHAT GOD WILL DO􏰬􏰬

“This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:46-47

David declared he was not only going to take out Goliath, but the whole Philistine army as well. “So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:48). David was so sure of the victory that he ran toward the battle.

Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him…” 1 Samuel 17:49- 50

He finished it. You must finish the race…finish your good fight. You declare the end from the beginning and you tell the devil what’s already been done through the finished work of Christ on the cross. You tell him that you were already healed, you were already delivered, and you were already blessed. When you can declare the finished work of Christ, you put an end to it. You’ve laid the ax to the root of the tree. When Jesus spoke to that fig tree in Mark 11:12-14, and said, “No man will eat fruit from you hereafter and forever,” He spoke the end result.

Understand that I, John Polis, am not trying to get healed, John Polis is already healed. John Polis is already delivered from the authority of darkness. I don’t start praying, “Oh God help me.” I declare to those demons, you cannot do anything to me because I have already been delivered from the authority of darkness. I’m already free. I declare the finished work of Christ and the victory is achieved.

It’s the same with your finances. Don’t say, “I’m just praying that God’s going to help me meet this bill.” Start declaring, “It is given unto me…‘good measures, pressed down shaken together, running over’ (Luke 6:38)…all my bills are paid, my bank accounts are full to overflowing, lack is gone, abundance has come. I’m above and not beneath. I’m the head and not the tail. I’m blessed going out and I’m blessed coming in.”

When the disciples came back the next day and saw the fig tree had dried up, Jesus told them, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” Mark 11:23 KJV

You see, your real sword is what you’re saying because your faith is decreeing the end result. Abraham called the things which be not as though they were, he declared the finished work. This is how you finish the battles of your life. You don’t have to fight sickness and disease the rest of your life, finish it! Declare the end result and say it’s already done. “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24).
