The Truth Applied Brings Results

JAMES 1:21-25 KJV “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”

After we have laid hold on the Word of God we must put it into action in our lives. Jesus said in JOHN 8:32 ”And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Getting free from our problems is the desired result. This can only be achieved by application of truth to our situation. There is a beautiful illustration on this in LUKE 5:1-9 “And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at THY WORD I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:”

Peter is here having a problem of lack, he has been unable to catch fish for resale in the market place. This of course translates into money to pay the bills or hired help. In the meantime, Jesus is sowing the word nearby and calls Peter to join in the service. I’m sure Jesus wanted to help Peter with his problem so He brought Peter within hearing range of the Word of God. ROMANS 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Once Peter began to listen to Jesus he was in a position to hear some answers to his problems which is exactly what happened in verse 4. Jesus turned to Peter and gave him instructions for solving the dilemma. “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.”

Peter could have clapped his hands and rejoiced over the Word Jesus gave him like we often do today. We get all excited when we hear an anointed message or God quickens a Word to us during study times, sometimes we even call several people and preach it to them. Sharing with others is great, but we must then proceed to do what God said and apply the word to our situation. It was now Peter’s turn to act; he must follow the instructions for the results, by going fishing again.

He also had to cast down any imaginations before he could act on that Word. 2 CORINTHIANS 10:3-5 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” After all, he had been fishing all night to no avail, right in the same location too! LUKE 5:5 “Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing…” This is usually the first response to the Word of God; human reason wants to check it out first to see if it makes sense. Peter may have had some big faults but he demonstrated a simple faith that produced miracles, he didn’t get hung up in the reason realm and stagger at the word. It didn’t take him long to submit his head to the Word of God and get into action, the result was a problem solved miraculously.

2 CORINTHIANS 10:5b-6 “…bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.” Notice what he said, nevertheless, at thy Word I will let down the net. He did it. Faith must be acted out, if he believed he would catch fish he must throw in the net with all those people watching. Peter had his link to God which released the power of miracles into his life.

When you get the Word of God into your heart and mind and translate it into action that’s when “signs are going to follow you”. As God said “Believe on the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved and thy house” ACTS 16:31. In response, say to God, “Be it unto me according to thy word” (LUKE 1:38) and start rejoicing. Hallelujah! Has God said “give and it shall be given to you” in LUKE 6:38? Find something to give. Has God Said “By His stripes you are healed” (1 PETER 2:24)? Then say “by His stripes I am healed” and start acting like a well person.

I remember one time during Bible College in Dayton, Ohio; I awoke one morning with a high fever and aching body, all the symptoms of the flu. I was cold then I was sweaty yet shivering all at the same time. It was time to get up and go to work, but I had decided I couldn’t, that is until my wife, Rebecca, came into the room. I proceeded to tell her I couldn’t go to work and she responded with “healed people don’t stay in bed”. I knew what she was referring to because we had been studying on healing and knew that the Work of healing was done at Calvary. However, I didn’t feel like it was done for me right then. Nevertheless, at that word I said “you are right dear, I’m healed by His stripes and I’m going to work”. Now, this was in the winter of 1978 which was very cold. It just so happened that on my job that day we had to unload a truck of food supplies for the V.A. Hospital I was working in. Normally, without the Word of God working, a person with a fever who is sweaty shouldn’t get out in that freezing air like I was doing. I want you to know that because I acted healed, all my symptoms were gone and the power of God healed me.

We must translate the truth of the word of God into action to see the miracle.
