JOHN 1:1-4 & 14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men… And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
The word was made flesh and dwelt among us. John the apostle said it again in 1 JOHN 1:1 ”That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life” “We touch God through His Word” Hallelujah! Many people are saying “if I could just touch God I’d get my miracle.” Let me tell you folks you don’t touch God by self effort and tears but by believing. God has sent His word to give us a link to Himself and His resources.
ISAIAH 55:8-11 ”For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
After you have realized that TOTAL VICTORY is God’s will for you and you have decided to make Him your “Total Source” then you must go to the Word for the particular portion of what God has said concerning your present need and that’s where you “touch God”. Lay hold to that “Word” and you lay hold to God. When you let go of the Word of God you let go of God. God has chosen to release His creative power through His word. When God speaks a word He commits all that He has and is to fulfill it. When you embrace the Word of God the power of God is released to bring the word to pass. We see this illustrated in the first coming of Jesus Christ to earth in LUKE 1:26-38,
Mary and God’s Word
“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. 36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this Is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. 38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.” LUKE 1:26-38 KJV
Notice the angel in verse 35 “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee”. God made a commitment of His power right here to fulfill the promise made to Mary. That’s the way it is with you and I every promise God has made is backed by the power to fulfill it.
Now Mary only had this promise but we have thousands of them recorded in the Bible to cover every area of life and link us to God.
2 PETER 1:3-4 KJV “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
Peter again tells us that the divine nature and power of God comes to us through the Word of God. It’s just like John said we are touching God when we handle the Word of God.
HEBREWS 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Now getting back to Mary, notice in LUKE 1:38 that Mary laid hold of that promise,
“And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.” LUKE 1:38
We will have to do the same thing for TOTAL VICTORY; the power is not released until the word is embraced in faith. The point I’m making is that when all the lines are busy to the prayer tower and the pastors are on vacation you can still touch God by getting a handle on His Word. My friend God’s word is all you need to put you over in any situation.
Jesus and God’s Word
Consider Jesus in MATTHEW 4:1-11,
“Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.” MATTHEW 4:1-11
The only thing Jesus had to depend on was the Word of God, the already written Word. When Jesus spoke these words to the devil while He was under attack He was quoting Old Testament passages by faith just like you and I must do. You see Jesus was not only fully God but also fully man. He had a human spirit, soul, and body through which He voluntarily limited Himself to the same circumstances we face so that He could help us when we faced them (HEBREWS 2:17-18). As a man Jesus laid hold of God’s power by laying hold of the Word of His Father. Glory to God! He didn’t have any other way to achieve success or be victorious over the attack of satan. Back then His was the only ministry going, I mean to say He couldn’t call on any other Holy Ghost ministries for help, He was it. But He knew His vital link to the power of God and He laid hold of it. So many times we try this preacher and that preacher or this method and that method until we are so discouraged that we are convinced we’ll never get deliverance. Now when we are new Christians that will work, even when we are battle-weary sometimes. We can call for reinforcements, but folks I want to tell you that anytime you can lay hold of His Word you can lay hold of Him. That’s Power! As long as satan can’t separate you from the Word of God you will make it through. We may be separated from others by distance or bad timing but as long as you have the Word of God abiding in you, you are never separated from your source of victory, you are linked to God.
Us and God’s Word
MARK 4:14-20 “The sower soweth the word. 15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended. 18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, 19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. 20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.”
In this passage we see that God is giving us the word to produce the desired result in our life. Just like a farmer plants the right seed for the desired results, God’s Word or a word of peace it will produce a harvest of healing and peace. The devil knows that he must steal your link to God which is the word so he immediately proceeds with his carefully designed plan of cares, lust for other things, and deceitfulness of riches to choke out the Word of God in your life. My friend, satan’s plan is to get the seed out of the ground, the Word out of your heart, because the Word will bring an hundred-fold victory to you. God’s plan is to sow the Word into you through preaching, teaching, meditating, and speaking it. (JOSHUA 1:8, PROVERBS 4:20-23)
