JAMES 5:17-18 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
Elijah is the perfect example of a person with serious issues who still had an effective spiritual life of power and productivity. What were some of his “issues” or “challenges” that could have been a hindrance to moving ahead in the plan and purpose of God? The Bible said he was “subject to like passions”, in other words, he had the same problems that we who came from Adam with a fallen nature seem to struggle with. If you read his story in 1 KINGS 17-19, you will find him in depression with suicidal thoughts, running in fear from an enemy and hiding in a cave. That doesn’t sound like the spiritual superstar we think of when we hear about “Prophet Elijah” who calls down fire from Heaven.
So what was the secret to his success in ministry? He didn’t let his issues stop him from using his faith to pray down the power of God on Israel and bring repentance to the back-slidden nation. Elijah believed in the “imputed righteous” God had given to him, just like his father Abraham who was blessed because his “iniquities were forgiven and his sins covered” (ROMANS 4:6-7). Elijah had faith to change weather patterns and stop and start the rain in Israel because he didn’t let his issues stop him from believing in the righteousness God set to his account. Faith is based on “righteousness given” not “righteousness earned.” ROMANS 5:17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
We can’t wait to get all of our “hangups” corrected before we start using “faith righteousness” and praying God’s purposes into manifestation through our lives. You and I will never be more qualified to “make much power available through prayer” than we are right now because we cannot improve upon our “position” in Christ. We stand in “His Righteousness” and have the same access to Father God as Jesus Himself has. We must not allow our current human condition to determine our faith level, but we must renew our minds to “where we stand” in the finished work of Christ. Take your position “in Him” and start doing exploits for God.
We don’t get answers from God because of our “performance” but because of our “position” in Christ. Don’t wait any longer to begin using your potential in prayer, you can do great things because God has qualified you in His sight. I have been in five fold ministry for 40 years around the world, and have seen blind eyes opened (view Croatian woman receiving her sight), deaf ears hear again, and many sicknesses healed. I have planted churches, opened Bible Colleges, written many books, hosted TV and Radio programs, traveled more than a million miles for Jesus. None of this happened because I’m “ok”, but because I have learned to take my place in Christ and live from position not performance. You can do it too!
I have written a short book entitled God Fathers, How To Father Like God (Obtain your copy of God Fathers). In it I talk about the abuses of my childhood that left scars in my soul, but I also share how God helped me to live victoriously in Christ in spite of it all. If you are born again, you are a New Creation in Christ, all you need is for your “head” to catch up with what happened in your “heart” and you will be doing exploits for God.
